The station is the first community radio station to be launched and aired in the small town of Umzimkhulu. Reality is that the Harry Gwala District is the ONLY district, in the entire KwaZulu-Natal Province that had no community radio. Sisonke Community Radio, operating as Harry Gwala FM, was granted license on 28th August 2015. It consists of three aerials, Straalhoek (uMzimkhulu) and Transnet (Donnybrook) and Kokstad aerials at 88.8fm and 101.9fm respectively. This project covers 400 km radius.
Harry Gwala Radio PTY LTD operating as Harry Gwala FM (HG fm) is based in one of the nodal point areas of KwaZulu Natal whereby its coverage is predominantly rural. It seeks to educate, empower and entertain its audience as it becomes an amicable and reliable source of information dissemination.
Harry Gwala Radio (Pty) Ltd, trading as Harry Gwala FM (HG FM), is a proudly community-driven radio station based in Umzimkhulu, KwaZulu-Natal. Broadcasting across a 400 km radius on 88.8 FM and 101.9 FM, HG FM is the first community radio station in the Harry Gwala District.
